One of the challenges we faced with the earliest version of Champions of Miyandir (CoM) back in 2024 was making the experience approachable to newcomers. Because we lacked any autoplay functionality (i.e. playing against a bot), the only way for brand new people to learn the game was by playing with someone who already knew how to play.
This created a lot of barriers for people who wanted to try the game because:
- You’d have to join the Discord server and find a stranger to play with, which can be intimidating if you’re shy!
- People were not always available at the time you wanted to play
- The game board allowed illegal moves, making it more confusing to learn the rules.
- Learning the rules required having someone explain them to you, which meant you couldn’t even try the game without finding a buddy first
We have come a long way since that version. We are currently building a tutorial mode for the game so you can learn the rules on your own, in case you don’t have a buddy to teach you.
Additionally, we have already built a fully-working autoplay feature, which means you can play in single player mode against a bot. The game now also honors all the rules of the game, making it easier to learn the game for those who prefer learning through trial and error.
